Pain & Injuries

Lisa will use a combination of her anatomy & body mechanics/alignment training, acupuncture channel theory, and trigger point theory to relieve specific tight muscles, reduce inflammation that can be creating pain and/or nerve impingement, increase range of motion and shorten the healing time. Treatment may include acupuncture, heat therapy, e-stim therapy, and instruction in self care, postural alignment and stretching.

Sports Injuries

Whether you are an elite athlete, weekend warrior, or simply love your favorite sport or fitness/exercise routine, you know how much pain or an injury can set you back. No one likes to take a break from their favorite activity, or miss work or social events due to pain, but sometimes the body demands otherwise. Acupuncture can help you heal quickly and thoroughly so you can get back to doing what you love sooner. Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with physical therapy, massage, or any other bodywork or treatment.

Lisa has treated many elite athletes & marathoners, who seek to get back to training or racing as soon as possible, as well as recreational players (of tennis, golf, mountain biking, hockey, soccer, basketball, running, yoga and more) who don’t want to be sidelined from their favorite activity.

Repetitive Strain Injuries

Acupuncture also effectively treats repetitive strain issues that may be due to demanding physical labor, playing a musical instrument, hobbies (knitting, crafting, gardening etc), taking care of babies and toddlers, computer use and more.  Acupuncture treatment will reduce pain and inflammation, and we will discuss self-care, stretching, and alignment for self maintenance care.

Back pain

Back pain is one of the most common conditions an acupuncturist treats.   Some estimates indicate that up to 80% of people have back pain at some point in their lives.  This results in missed work or lower work productivity,  extensive use of pain medication, expensive medical testing such as MRI’s, and reduced quality of life.  Some common medical conditions causing  back pain include muscle strain, ruptured or herniated disc, sciatica,  spinal stenosis, arthritis and degenerative disc issues.  However, a vast majority of back pain is diagnosed as “non-specific” which means the cause is unclear and the condition is not serious. Standard care involves pain medication and waiting it out. Acupuncture is excellent for most back pain because treatment is very specific.  We can identify which acupuncture channels and muscle groups are affected, and can identify and treat any other systemic issues or emotional issues that are contributing to the pain.

Surgical Healing

Surgery is very stressful physically and emotionally.  Anxiety levels prior to surgery can be high while anticipating the unknowns of the surgery and recovery process.   Acupuncture treatment is helpful both before and after orthopedic surgery, abdominal surgery, gynecological surgery, oral surgery and more.  Benefits of treatment include:

  • Decrease in Pre-Operation Anxiety
  • Pain Management
  • Decrease Inflammation
  • Reduction of Inflammation and Swelling
  • Reduction of Nausea and Vomiting
  • Regulation of Digestive Function
  • Reduction of Need for Medication
  • Reduction of Scar Tissue
  • Decreased Healing Time
  • Increased Rates of Full Recovery
